Brainfire now with WordPress

March 2nd, 2009 § 1

I’ve made the decision to use WordPress as a CMS for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s free. Secondly it’s so much easier to use that Movable Type, which I was using previously. In addition to that, there’s just so many plug-ins available and there’s an iPhone app too. It’s everything blog software should be. As a temporary measure, I’m going to use a nice free WordPress theme called Oulipo until I get round to creating my own.

Also, I have moved a lot of posts that I no longer feel are Brainfire related to my personal site as I aim to keep this site on the subject of professional Web development and help articles.

Little bit of a problem

January 27th, 2006 Comments Off

If anyone’s been here lately, you may have noticed some funny things going on and pages not working. Well, I’ve moved server and it caused an untold amount of problems. I’ve got a new re-seller account at WebFusion and wanted to host brainfire.co.uk on that. But as I already had an existing brainfire account, WebFusion could not create a new one. Which means I was facing un-avoidable downtime. I’ve had to back-up the whole site - wait - and then upload to the new server. What a load of rubbish! It would have gone smoother if I moved to a new host.
This will also explain the lack of posts recently.

Upgrade to Movable Type 3.2

December 9th, 2005 Comments Off

Not that anyone will be interested, but I’ve upgraded my publishing software for this site to version 3.2. I had a few teething problems as I publish my pages in PHP and as the default file permissions in 3.2 are set to non-executable, these did not run… as I learnt the hard way.
All working now though, and I must say - I really like Movable Type 3.2. It’s a great piece of software with some clever little functions and now has a colourful interface.

New sections added

New menu for brainfireYou may notice the new menu on the top right opening 3 new areas of brainfire: About, Portfolio and Contact. This has opened a whole new can of worms - I now have to fill them with words!
Further content will be added throughout the course of my life as and when it happens.

As of the latest site changes, these sections are out-of-date and no longer maintained.

New look for brainfire

March 4th, 2005 § 1

As you can probably tell, I’ve launched my new design for brainfire. Exactly 10 months to the day! There’s still a few things that need sorting out, which I will be fixing as & when I get a chance & also a few additional sections. Hope you like it? All feedback is welcome.
